Electric Motors Control and Diagnostics

Electric Motors Control

Electromotors are one of the greatest electric energy consumers. They are also indispensable elements used for driving every industrial process. It is important to supervise their startup, operation and shut-down, and especially to predict their defect or failure in production. We are the right choice.

Control of start-up and speed adjustment of electric motors:

The start-up of electric motors is controlled by star-delta contactor combinations, soft starters and frequency inverters. The latter also make it possible to control the motor during normal operation - after the start-up and before the stop.

Tin resistors

Tin resistors are most frequently used:
• for start-up and adjustment of slipping motors used for operation of
- cranes,
- ski lifts,
- ventilators,
- pumps,
• for start-up and adjustment of DC motors,
• as braking resistors for frequency converters,
• as earthing resistors.

Their purpose is to:
• reduce the starting torque and the number of revolutions required,
• limit the starting thrusts.

Since they are resistant to vibration and suited to demanding operating conditions, they are built into cranes and excavators
and used in concrete-mixing plants and for every purpose when cast iron resistors do not provide adequate resistance
to mechanical loads.

The projects of start-up control and speed adjustment for electric motors:
• REVOZ NOVO MESTO - resistors for 40 t frequency regulators
• REK BITOLA - start-up resistors for 400 - 500 kW electric motors
• RUDIS VELENJE - resistors for drive stations of electric motors

Prediction of defects on electric motors:

In today’s business environment, manufacturers are faced with the challenge of growing production demands with existing machinery and equipment, while continuing to cut costs. The most pervasive cost that drags down productivity improvements is unplanned equipment and manufacturing process downtime. Our MCM Measuring centre (Motor Condition Monitor) continuously monitor electric motor-based machinery and equipments (fans, compressors, pumps, press machines, conveyors) used in several processes in a plant and has the ability of detecting impending mechanical and electrical failures (imbalance, misalignment, bearing and rotor faults, leakages, valve and vane misadjustments, isolation and other electrical problems) in these systems at the early stages of fault development, using only voltage and current measurements.

MCM Motor condition monitor can be connected to a MCMSCADA system that enables remote monitoring of devices and practically online information about machinery condition. Data can also easily be integrated in to existing software or SCADA systems for maintenance planning.

The main advantages of MCM Motor condition monitor and MCMSCADA:
• Increases production and decreases the cost of repair by early warning of
  pending breakdowns.
• Decreases the cost of energy and production losses by process
  optimization.
• Increases the efficiency and quality of production by remote monitoring
  machines and related equipment.
• Increases the life of machine and related equipment and the plant value by
finding out the root causes of failure.
• Increases the effectiveness of maintenance staff.
